Why We Founded Speater College · A Letter to the Future

Dear future Speater College family,

As I write these words, Speater College is still a brand-new school. Laughter has not yet echoed through the campus, children’s artwork has not yet covered the hallways, and no running figures have appeared on the playground.

But precisely because of this, we have the time to seriously answer one question: What kind of school do we truly want to build?

We believe that the goal of education is not to “produce” standardized products, but to “awaken” every unique life.

In an era where the pace of change outstrips anything before, the shelf life of knowledge grows shorter and the demand for skills constantly evolves. If a school only teaches children to “memorize the standard answers,” those answers may well be obsolete by the time they walk out the gate.

That is why, at Speater College, we place greater value on the things that never expire—curiosity, critical thinking, the ability to collaborate, the courage to face uncertainty, and the habit of extending kindness to the world.

We believe that learning should be meaningful, not merely useful.

When designing our curriculum, we constantly ask: Why should a child learn this? How does it connect to the real world? Can it spark the “I want to know” inside them? When learning shifts from “I have to” to “I want to,” education truly begins.

We believe that a school should be a place where children feel safe, respected, and seen.

At Speater College, there is no single template for a “good child.” The quiet child may think deeply; the lively child may express freely. The child who loves numbers and the child who loves art are equally worthy of appreciation. What we strive to do is see each child’s uniqueness and help them become the best version of themselves—not a copy of someone else.

We believe that education is a “partnership” that requires the joint participation of home and school.

A school is not a factory that takes children from families for a few years and then “returns” them. At Speater College, parents are not bystanders to education; they are vital participants. We build open communication platforms and regularly host parent workshops and education salons, because we deeply understand: only when family and school stand on the same side can a child be held steady.

Speater College is still young. We do not have the century-old heritage of a prestigious school, nor a vast alumni network. But this also means that we have more room to innovate, stronger drive to prove ourselves, and a deeper desire to do every small thing well.
